Two youngsters selected to represent Bangladesh at Chinese Language and Culture Summer Camp
DHAKA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) — A Chinese proficiency competition for secondary school students was held here Thursday with a view to select two youngsters to represent Bangladesh at a summer camp to be held in China in October.
Scores of students applied to attend the competition from a number of institutions, including Dhaka University Confucius Institute, Shanto-Mariam Confucius Class Room and Bangladesh International Tutorial.
Ten of the applicants were selected through initial processes to join the final competition. All of them were awarded prizes and certificates.
The Chinese embassy here hosted the contest, which was organized by Dhaka University Confucius Institute.
The contestants competed in several segments featuring free speeches and artistic performances.
Organizers say the contest, aimed at promoting Chinese culture and creating a communication platform, selected two youngsters to represent Bangladesh at the Chinese Language and Culture Summer Camp to be held in Beijing next month.
Samin Saiyara Azim, a student of Dhaka's leading English Medium school Bangladesh International Tutorial, won the first place in the contest.
The class eight student said she was very happy as she won the first prize and got the opportunity to visit beautiful China.
"I am a class eight student of Bangladesh International Tutorial. I am so happy. It's a dream coming true. I was really keen to see beautiful China. I am so happy as I am going to China."
Speaking at the contest program, Sun Yan, cultural counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Bangladesh, said Chinese language and culture summer camp is a super platform for all Chinese learners in the world.
"It's like an Olympic game for athletes. You (students) can show your achievements on this platform such as language skills, your knowledge about China and your age."
Chinese Language and Culture Summer Camp is one of many exciting opportunities for students from institutions worldwide to improve their knowledge and skills.
The annual camp is held in China from June to August every year.
